I’ve been working with Thaw Naing and Frans Schendelaar to develop storyboards for the first act of my story Wooden Heart into a comic. Here is some more amazing artwork from Thaw, who has been visualising characters from the story for Frans to illustrate. This post shows concept art of the imprisoned daughter, who plays a pivitol role in the story.

Daughter concept

The daughter has been carved by her father to be his companion. She is held captive in a lonely ruin and kept hidden from sunlight, as he fears she may deform back into the tree from which she was crafted.

This design is based on the idea of a wooden doll, but Thaw has also referenced the illustrations of Gustav Klimt to convey a sense of the natural elegance and resilience of living wood.
